Honeymoon hotspot
Tropical white beaches, palm trees and beautiful blue seas create an ideal honeymoon hotspot in Fiji, but it’s also a dream destination for couples who want some adventure and culture to go with their beaches. By Amy Watkins
Fiji is made up of 333 islands awash with colour – from the rainbow soft corals, to tropical birds and lush green rainforests. As well as the abundance of beautiful beaches, more adventurous honeymooners can venture inland to explore the mountains, forests and waterfalls, including the most famous of all; the sacred Bouma Falls on the Island of Taveuni, featured in the film Return to the Blue Lagoon. Despite the exotic location of Fiji, there are no leeches or crocodiles in the water and no harmful insects or animals in the jungle, so honeymooners can enjoy white-water rafting and rainforest treks without any worries. Scuba diving is a major attraction and as the soft coral reef capital of the world Fiji has lots going on below the surface. Unsurprisingly all this marine life means plenty of fresh seafood, but Fijian cuisine also takes its influences from India, China and Japan – as well as European and Australian flavours. Visitors must experience a lovo, an underground oven that consists of food wrapped in banana leaves and cooked on hot rocks buried in earth. A meke evening of Fijian song and dance follows the lovo feast and most resorts feature one every week, or can arrange a visit to an authentic nearby village. Fiji is also a perfect place for a destination wedding and combined honeymoon, visit www.bulafiji.com for more information about locations, prices and legal requirements.
